Design Competition winners will strut their creative stuff at BDwest.

Winners have been selected for BDwest’s trio of themed competitions and you’ll have the opportunity to see them firsthand, built out on the BDwest show floor.  

Guest Room: Indulge Your Inner DivaSponsored by D’style Inc.

WIINNERS: Best Guest Room: Cool Space — Carl Ross, president; Dolly Ross, chief operating officer, Design Group Carl Ross and Best Guest Room: Hot Concept — Maral Sarisozen, senior interior designer,  Studio Gaia*

The RFP: Design a full-service, glitz-and-glamour hotel room (excluding bath area) that even the most provocative diva can call home. Whether it’s black vinyl or bling, your diva’s digs should fit a full-service hotel room that is 13.6 ft. by 26 ft., or about 350 sq. ft. And, you’ll have $12,500 to craft something that’s totally in vogue.

GUEST ROOM JUDGES included: Mark Harmon, ceo of Auberge Resorts; David Sussman, senior vice president, hotel development and design, Kimpton Hotel & Restaurant Group; and George Scammell, vice president global design, Wyndham Worldwide.

Fusion Taco Bar*

WIINNER: Joemy Vega, cafe design manager, Hard Rock International

The RFP: Serve up a combo taco bar + eatery that would please a chef trained by culinary stars with styles as different as Rick Bayless and Eric Ripert. The space needs to play up a fused foodie vibe in an indoor/outdoor setting that totals 1,150 sq. ft., or about 50 by 23 sq.ft. per seat. Make it a mix of counter seating and high tables. Your budget will be $100 per square foot, which should include roughly $60 for walls, etc and $40 for the FF&E. Bon appétit!

Spa-tacular: The Memorable Bathroom

WINNER: Jennifer Kleen, principal, FODA Design*

The RFP: Take the guest bathroom to the next level. Integrate Zen touches, technology, lighting and fixtures that would make the most jaded traveler green with envy. You have $150 per square foot or about $30,375 to fashion a bathing and primping space that will redefine the whole notion of sybaritic. The 13.6 ft. wide by 15 ft.-deep space should include two sinks, a makeup table, an oversized two-person shower and a free-standing tub.
