CONFERENCE SESSION:
Chula Vista Bayfront: The Neighborhood of the Future

Chula Vista, CA, Mayor Cheryl Cox is dedicated to helping the 550-acre Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan reach its potential as a world-class waterfront property. The Plan received unanimous approval from the California Coastal Commission in August 2012, allowing for work to begin on the eco-approved development that features 240 acres dedicated to parks, open space and habitat restoration/preservation, with 130 new acres identified for parks and open space that provide public access and use. Major improvements, including clearing of electrical transmission towers and demolition of a power plant, have prepared the area for development. Plans are to clear the site entirely before the end of 2014. Ms. Cox was sworn in as Chula Vista’s 39th mayor in 2006 and once served as a local school teacher, principal and board member.
